7) How much does it cost to publish Evergreen? It varies depending on the number of pages and the number of copies printed. Our big issues - say 56 pages and a press run of 100,000 - can cost $150,000, but we've also published small issues with limited press runs that cost no more than $50,000. Page-wise, our largest issue ever was an 80-page edition featuring forests and forestry in Alaska. Our most widely read issue was "The Truth about America's Forests." More than 700,000 copies have been distributed in three different press runs.
8) Are your big editions funded primarily by donations from major corporations? No, most of our contributions come in the form of small donations. For example, "Forests and Forestry in the Northeast" (September 1998) generated contributions from more than 250 companies and individuals.
9) How often do you publish? It varies. Typically, we publish three or four issues annually, but some editions require such extensive research that we are only able to publish twice a year. Funding is also a limiting factor. Contributions were down last year so we only published twice. Though business conditions are still poor, we hope to publish three times, beginning with June publication of "Timber Harvesting: Sad Ending or New Beginning?"
10) Are there other publications that compete with Evergreen? No. There are trade magazines, like Timber Processing, Northern Logger and Timber West but Evergreen is a one-of-a-kind magazine. It is non-commercial and unique in terms of mission, content, funding and audience.
11) How can I subscribe to Evergreen? Technically speaking, you can't subscribe. The magazine is sent free of charge to dues paying members of the Evergreen Foundation. Many of our members also purchase gift memberships for others, including their customers, the news media, schools, elected officials and local civic organizations.
12) Is my membership in the Evergreen Foundation tax deductible? Yes, your membership is deductible to the full extend allow by law.
