Position Statement title

What's your position on National Forest road closures/

Save for poorly engineered roads that should be closed or repaired, and seasonal wildlife considerations, we oppose permanent road closures. For years, anti-harvesting
advocates have been telling rural communities dependent on federal timber harvesting that their futures rested in developing forest tourism. Now that the federal timber sale program is all but gone, we find these same groups supporting permanent road closures. Minus a good road system capable of accessing forests outside designated wilderness areas, robust National Forest tourism will remain a distant dream in the rural West.
